God has not always been first in my life

God has not always been first in my life. In fact, although I had heard of him before, I had no real interest in learning about Him. Growing up, I only attended church a few times and could care less about what the preacher said.

However, that all changed on one particular night. I was about 19 years old. My mom and stepfather had gotten into an argument which utimately led to violence. I went in after him to protect my mother. She pushed me away and said that everything was okay. I knew that was indeed not the truth. So, I ran back into my room and proceeded to call the police. But instead of talking I just immediately hung up.

Just then, a tall figure walked into my room. His eyes were full of rage. His hands went around my neck. He simply tried to to choke me because I tried to protect my mother. I screamed in horror as my mom had come to my rescue. The police showed up five hours later. By that time, I had made arrangements to stay at a family member's house for the night.  This was the night that I had once again discovered God.

I turned on the television and listened to a female pastor speak about God and how good He is. She even spoke about how she struggled growing up. It was just what I needed to hear. I needed to know that somehow things would get better. This was my way out of my current circumstances.

A few days later, I decided to partner with her ministry. I began receiving daily message about God. Also, the Bible had become my friend as I studied scriptures. Within several weeks my life had changed drastically. I had a sense of peace even in the storm. Through His words I knew that the trouble was only temporary.

Months later, I was hired at a corporate company. I was to be working part time. At that moment, I was estatic and thankful. I was able to help out around the house and the violent arguments about finances dwindled. I began to tithe on a regular basis. From this alone things continue to take a positve turn.

A year later, I was promoted to a full time position in the same company. I was amazed and grateful. I knew all of this good was none other than God. Not too long after gaining the position, I had become employee of the month. For me, it was a true blessing.

At this point in my life, I had grown to understand that God was playing a significant role. He had made all things possible. All I had to do was believe and trust His word.

As I continue to tithe and give my offerings today, God has opened many doors for me. I have met many great people. I currently work one of the largest record companies in the world, in which I am one of the youngest employees. Futher more, through the grace of God, I will be a published author in February 2008. Without my hardships which led me to being introduced to God, I would still be lost. I had to allow myself to be open to His laws and principles for a better way of life. I found that things were much better when I stopped trying to be the hero. I had to allow God to take control. Thus, He has become my one and only source now and forever more.
